Kris Kumlien, CEPA®

Partner | Wealth Manager

Kris Kumlien, Certified Exit Planning Advisor® (CEPA®), operates his Kingsview Partners practice from Bozeman, Montana, serving clients, families, and business owners throughout the Gallatin Valley and surrounding communities. Born and raised in Bozeman, Kris brings deep local roots, more than a decade of industry experience, and a lifelong connection to the community he serves.

He earned two bachelor’s degrees, in finance and economics, from Montana State University, graduating with highest honors in 2006. After college, Kris was recruited for a career in investment banking before choosing a different path: returning home to help restore his family’s former business, Montana Troutfitters. After helping lead a successful turnaround and eventual sale of the business, he entered the financial services industry with Edward Jones in 2012.

A Process Built Around Real Life

Kris believes financial planning works best when it begins with a clear understanding of where clients are today, where they want to go, and what may stand in the way. His approach is centered on thoughtful questions, disciplined planning, and close coordination with clients’ trusted professionals, including CPAs and estate attorneys.

He takes pride in helping clients think through major decisions across every stage of life, from saving and investing to retirement planning, business transitions, legacy planning, and family priorities.

Guidance for Families and Business Owners

As a Certified Exit Planning Advisor® professional, Kris brings a specialized perspective to his work with business owners. Having helped turn around and sell a family business himself, he understands how personal, complex, and meaningful a business transition can be.

That experience shapes how he works with entrepreneurs and closely held business owners, helping them think through business value, timing, risk, family considerations, and the financial life that comes after a transaction.

Deep Roots in Bozeman

Kris has called Bozeman home his entire life and remains deeply invested in the people and places that make Montana meaningful to him. He and his wife, Andrea, are raising four children and enjoy spending time together on the backroads, rivers, and streams across the state.

Outside of work, Kris enjoys fly fishing, hiking, hunting, camping, traveling, photography, and serving on local community boards. He brings the same sense of care, accountability, and gratitude from his personal life into the way he serves clients.
